I have a roland vs 880 vxpanded and I have a dual tray cd burner with digital in/out on the back. The digital in/out inputs on the back of the cd burner are black, the digital in/out on the back of the vs 880 is orange.SOcan I hook up that cd burner to my vs 880.

Dig a little deeper. Find out what jack is used on each side and more importantly, what signal is being sent thru that jack.

External burners typically will have one of three digital output connectors. An RCA looking thingie (coax), an XLR-looking thingie (AES/EBU) or a weird square plug for an optical digital S/PDIF connection.

If you've got matching ends you should be good to go! The coax S/PDIF is NOT an audio RCA patch cord. It has to be a VIDEO cable (or called out as a coaxial S/PDIF cable) for the right impedance.
