Hello Ya'll,

Having a problem with my computer recognizing my cd burner. Tried lots of things but, had no luck. Thought someone might have a little insight for the dummy!

I use Easy CD creator 4 that came installed with my Dell setup.
When I have a file cued to create a CD, I click on the record icon and this message pops up:

THERE ARE NO SUPPORTED CD RECORDERS AVAILABLE. ENSURE THAT YOUR CD RECORDER IS POWERED ON AND THAT ALL CABLES ARE PROPERLY CONNECTED. YOU MAY ALSO NEED TO UPDATE EASY CD CREATOR TO RECOGNIZE YOUR CD RECORDER.

I've done these things and still I get this message at the same point every time. I have been using this version of easy cd for some time and had no problem. Has anyone had this message before? What did you do about it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It Happens!

Have you recently installed a new video card or audio card?
Sometimes when installing one of these you will screw up your ASPI layer which is the driver of sorts that allows communications with CD burners.

Has the burner ever worked?
how is it hooked up on the IDE bus? is the master/slave jumper set right? does the burner show up in bios when the computer boots up?
this is more a matter of personal preference, but have you tried any programs other than that Adaptec program? Nero has always worked well for me...
with a little more info we can probably get it figured out...

If you upgrades recently to XP, I believe that EZCD version 5 or above are required to run under XP.

CD Burner

Yes ,

The CD burner has been working fine since I've had my system(2 yrs). I haven't installed any new cards or audio devices that I am aware of but, (don't kill me!) I had to install internet on my precious recording computer. Long story. My wife needed access for bills and such as our house computer died. I've had no problems with any of my components until this. My protools are fine,as well as Acid,T-Racks, sound forge - all great! Except for the dang CD burner. Hope I didn't do permanent damage. Thank you all for your input, I appreciate it.

Since your unit is only two years old, you might try calling Dell.

I have had very good results with their technical support in the past.

Does the burner show up in your device manager and is it 'named' correctly? If this is all ok, you may need to download and reinstall a patch from Roxio's web site that updates the list of supported drives in the Easy CD directory. If the drive was manufactured after the version 4 software was written you will need to install this update. Good luck!

ive seen post and theres even a poll around here somewhere that suggests your average cd burner is only good for a year or so. maybe it just took a crap on ya- i cant substantiate the year working life thing- as ive had mine for about 2 years w/o a prob (knock on wood)- but they're not that expensive and it would be a pretty simple switch- keep lookin for other answeres though- good luck- besides if the burners 2 years old it prob underspeed. consider it a "mandatory upgrade" ;)-

- oh yeah, and im usin roxio 5 and i had to download a patch or something to even get my drive to show up in the software (i still like it better than nero)

you never said if it shows up in the startup bios screen, or device manager...that would at least tell you if its a HW or SW issue...
