Hey I have a 4track that I have recorded on, I have part of the song on track1 and other on track2, when I playback the tape from my 4track it shows there is sound on both tracks but only plays track1, when I put the tape into my good stereo it plays both the tracks at the same time like it should.

In order to put it into my computer I plugged a music cord into the phones section of the stereo and plugg the other end into my computer, but this time when it plays onto my computer it only picks up track1, yet when playing out of its speakers it plays both track1 and track2. Any suggestions or other ways to get the contents onto my computer? Thanks a lot!

Two things.

Not sure what is a music cord. Is this a 1/4" TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) balanced or a 1/4" TS (Tip Sleeve) un-balanced cable?

You plugged your cable into what part of the computer? The mic-in or the line-in of the soundcard?

We are going to need way more information than what you are giving, like what interface are you using for your computer (integrated soundcard or an audio card), what out are you plugging into to direct the signal to the computer, are you using a balance or unbalanced cable, etc.

You used a single line to record two tracks. Make sense?

The headphone jack is not the most ideal way to record out of a stereo deck anyhow. Use the outputs probably on RCA jacks at the rear of the deck and go line in on your computer via a stereo plug or adapter.
