Hello!! This is indirectly related to recording, but I am looking for a new mixer, to use both for live purposes and studio (what little one I have :). I have pretty much narrowed my selections down to Mackie and Carvin, but I am by no means strictly on those two. I was wondering if anyone out there has had much experience with Carvin mixers and what they think about them. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am very open to them. Thanks guys in advance!!

I use 2 carvin 2488 mixers side by side. They are 93's I think.I use the one console for recording and the other for headphone mixing and play back to check out the take so I dont have to screw with levels. Now, not that you wanted to know all that. I have tried to get parts fron carvin and a manual about 2 years ago.....forget it. I cant get VU meters and forget about a manual. This I think really sucks about the company. The boards are ok but I would by all means go for the mackie from what I have read and heard with my own ears. For about $2500.00 used you can buy a hell a mixer in a mackie 32x8 with a meter bridge.Jim

I will probably heed your words, Jim. I am leaning towards the Mackies a little from what I've heard about them, and this is tipping me a little more. hehe I will probably end up getting a new VLZ Pro 1604. I don't need anything really big because all I've got, well, it should be here by the end of next week, is a Tascam 424 MkIII and I don't have a car, and thus not a job, yet because I don't turn 16 until next month and I will be delayed on getting a car because my collection of antique fishing lures did not sell this weekend and I'm going to have to wait to sell them because the prices are lower than what I payed for mine, so it could be a little while before I move them, but thanks alot for your reply, Jim!!! Anyone else????

I swear by Carvin myself. I have used them in clubs and have the SM162 sitting next to me for home studio use. Worked a C2400 for quite a while. We did blow out two channels on it about 6 months into the deal but Carvin replaced it for us.
I am about ten miles away from one of the Carvin warehouses...what manuals you want Jmorris? I will see what I can do.

evan, thanks ,but I finally got a manual when I bought the second board.I tried carvin for months and said it could not be gotten.I thought that stunk whenit was only 7 years old. Also these boards are mot modular.Anything goes wrong, you have to take the whole thing apart from the back panel-real pain. Also cant get some parts as I said, for a then 5 year old board that sucks.Hey I.m going to sell these boards real soon.$600.00 each with road case for each. They soung nice but I'm going to move up,Jim
