I thought this was a pretty decent song overall. It sounds like something that mainstream radio would play, yet surprisingly it didn't suck, which is hard to do in my opinion. I think what sets you guys apart is that your band consists of actual musicians who took the time to learn their instruments, especially the guitarist. Those sweeps in the solo brought me back to the days when I idolized Jason Becker. Definitely not the type of solo I'd expect from this genre of music, which is why I loved it. Speaking of expectations, the 17 second intro lead me to believe that I was in for some type of electronic music which was definitely not the case. I think anything that takes away from predictability can't hurt. Good vocals on this track too. Reminded me a little of Casey Crescenzo of The Dear Hunter.
Having said all that, I did have a slight problem with the recording. I listened to this track twice through a pair of
PROline 650 headphones by Ultrasone, and was getting a slight distortion. I'm no expert so I can't be sure but, maybe the track was mixed too hot? Because it's so late, I could not crank it through my monitors, but maybe others will chime in as well. I also noticed something was cutting into the vocals at times (usually during the chorus') causing little hiccups. It was barely noticeable, but it was as if something (a compression maybe) was interrupting them.
I've been recording for years, but only in the last couple years have I focused on the mixing end, so be sure to take all I've said with a grain of salt. Good work, and best of luck to you guys!
