when I turn on the machine, usually the capstan does not roll as fast as it should... it does not play or do any function

then I turn off the machine and for a couple of seconds the capstan rolls fast again

I do this several times, turn off on off on play with the reels, with the arms, press play , etc.. by hand and come to a point where everything works great again

I have found that track 8 does not record and that channels 7 high eq does not work, if I could record on track 8 would be nice.

thanks for your help

Take the bottom metal panel off and check the capstan belt. If it's loose then you need to change it. As far as your other issues... somethin' tells me you had that machine shipped and never checked it prior to buying. That's always a bad idea. You may have cracked or loose PCB's (from the handling) and it wouldn't surprise me if you find more issues down the line. Not trying to scare you but this is usually above and beyond normal maintenance and would probably require in depth troubleshooting and most likely a competent technician.

Despite the above, and this may at least clear the channel 8 issue, try to open up the top (above the VU meters) and carefully re-seat the audio card.

DBX Defeat Track 8 Switch

Make sure the "DBX Defeate Track 8 switch" on the back of the unit is in the "ON" position. On setting is for normal tracking. Off position defeats dbx NR on track 8, and may also remove track 8 playback from the normal mixer signal path.;)

What program are you planning on using from the reel to your computer? I am looking for a program to do this with out the software changing the sound when it changes format. Please let me know. Thanks.
