Hi. I'm trying to record something, anything, and I can't. I can hear what is going through the microphone on my speakers, but I can't record a thing in either cubase or the basic sound recorder. I am getting to input signal in Cubase.

I am using:

Widows XP
AMD Athlon 2600+
448 MB RAM
Sound card: Realtek AC97 Audio

Thanks in advance. Be sure to ask if you need any more info.

Is Cubase fully compatible with XP? I know pro tools isn't

And have you set up your sound card in Cubase ? What version of Cubase are you using ?

It's not a Cubase problem. I can't record in any program. It certainly is bamboozling...

Your soundcard should have some type of mixer section. Find it and there should be an option to choose what to record e.g. mic, line-in, what-you-hear etc. Choose your source and hopefully that will take care of it.

Double click the speaker icon on the bar at the bottom of your screen, this will open your recorder settings, make sure the input you are using is on and the volume is up (about 2/3 of the way up for most purposes) For what it's worth, I had the same problem when I first started recording on the computer, we all live and learn.
