I have an Omni Studio in my set up.

PA 9 is reading my Delta 66 ok in the Tools/Audio option menu but it doesn't read the Delta 66 when I try to assign my recording ports...so I can't record.

I have a feeling that this is a very basic issue. I am very frustrated right now because I tried everything within my own beginner knowledge and have failed...please help!

Thanks.

did you check the delta as recording/playback device on control panel > multimedia? did you run the audio card profiler on cakewalk options?

When you say it doesn't "read" the Delta, do you mean the imput and output ports for it do not show up, or that you get no sound?

In addition to my previous post, do I need to disable my integrated audio for this thing to work?

Thanks again.

I am a computer moron, but my inegrated audio (aka crap soundcard that came with computer) is clearly disabled , I record with my Darla24. Sounds right to me, better get a second opinion first.

Yeah, I disabled that. I even talked to the CW guys. They told me to boot up in safe mode to remove all residual CW files that way, and then try to install the drivers again. I set the everything up the way the CW's homepage has it, but the Delta still doesn't show up as a source. Delta shows up under the Tools>Audio...set up, but not in the source.

Do you think it might be a CW/XP compatibility issue? CW "says" that there shouldn't be any. I've been trying to get this thing to work for almost a week now...very frustrated indeed. Maybe it's because I'm new to all this:)

Thanks for all the help!

why don't try reinstalling the soundcard? i reinstalling drivers and physically removing it from its slot, and putting it back again.
after you do that, and after you reinstall the driver, don't restart the computer, choose shut down on the start menu, and then turn it on again.
also, did you check to see if there are any conflicts caused by the soundcard in the control pane > system tab?
and did you set the delta as the main recording/playback device in the control panel > multimedia tab?

adriano

I'll try your whole reinstalling process and the control pane>system tab thing after work tonight. Then I'll give you the results. Hear anything about the CWPA 9/XP and if there's an issue? Thanks.

not that i know of. people usually have the most problems with soundcard drivers concerning their operating system.

It worked! I uninstalled everything! Software, hardware, the whole shibang...and it worked. BUT I run into the problem again with no source when I'm set at 24 bit and 96KHz in CW. I must go down to 16 bit and about 44KHz for the source to show up. I read your posts about you not being able to playback anything. I guess its similar...but different.

What do you suggest?

I also have an Aardvark DP 2496 sitting right next to me, uninstalled. Perhaps I should go with the DP and return the Omni Studio? Very, very frustrated.

Thanks for all the help.

whattaguy,

go to cakewalk > options > audio > advanced > click on 'leave unpacked data unjustified' or something like that).
let me know if it works.
as for the omni, i've never used it, so i can't compare it to the dp, but the dp is awesome sounding, has pretty good preamps, and nice dsp effects. also, aardvark's support is top notch, even though they're taking a long time to release win2k drivers. if you stick to win98 or millenium, you shouldn't have any problems once everything is correctly configured.

postalblue,

I'll try that.

But was one of your problems with recording. After "messing around" with setups for some time, it wouldn't even record...at any setting. CWPA 9 would just freeze after one measure, and say an error occurred and asked if I want to send the details to Microsoft. And the program would just shut down.

Have any ideas? Hoping that there is another way besides reinstalling everything again. I'm sick of uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling...but if I must, I must. Thanks a bunch for your help.

i think you won't have to do that.
there are plenty of places where you can find optimization tips for audio recording, especially for cakewalk, and you'll probably find a lot of stuff specific to your soundcard.
let me know how it works.

adriano

it's not working...I'm going to try installing the DP and see what happens. Thanks

ok. i can be of more help then, since i'll know a bit better what i'm talking about.

adriano

adriano,

I installed the DP and had it set at 24/44, and everything worked fine until I started to lay down the 4th track. I started to get dropouts! I couldn't even listen to the previous 3 tracks without dropouts. I closed all other apps that may be running--I think(newbie response)--and pulled out my ethernet cable, but got the same results. Maybe my specs will be of some help:

Dell Dimension 8200
P4 1.8GHz
512MB PC800 RDRAM
40GB, ATA-100, 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Windows XP Pro OS

Thanks a bunch!

adriano? anybody?

just talked with the Aardvark guys and they said they will have an updated beta driver by this wednesday. i hope this gets rid of a lot of driver problems.

hmm... i didn't know you were running xp. can't help you much there, as i'm using win98. i bet the root of you problem is in the aardvark beta drivers, but you'd have to check with them first, as i wouldn't be able to step you through a xp setup optimization for audio.
this is what i got from aarkdvark's support, maybe it will help you:
Be sure DMA is enabled on your hard drives.
Go to START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL, select SYSTEM, go to the DEVICE
MANGER tab.
Open the "Disk drives" branch, select each IDE disk listed, go to the
"Settings" tab, and put a checkmark in "DMA"

There may be a program running in the background interfering with the
Q10, here's how to minimize the chances of that:

Go to START | RUN, type MSCONFIG, then click OK. Go to the STARTUP tab
and remove checkmarks from everything except "System Tray" and "scan
registry"

You may want to check for device conflicts, Aardvark or otherwise.
Although we don't use IRQs, our devices can sometimes aggravate other IRQ
conflicts. Go to START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | SYSTEM TOOLS |
SYSTEM INFORMATION
Once you're in system information, go to HARDWARE RESOURCES, the
CONFLICTS/SHARING. You'll see a list of all devices that are assigned the
same IRQ. Let me know what is on this. USB and video tend to be the
worst at sharing.

Even if no conflicts are mentioned here, it does not necessarily mean
that another device is not conflicting. It may also help to go to
device manager, and disable devices such as other soundcards, network
adapters, USB ports and modems, to see if the presence of that device is what
is interfering with the Aardvark.
