cant load drivers!!Ah!!!

I thought I would enter the world of computer recording along with my HD 24..oh my god, this is hard!! I got the sonar XL and mOTU 2408MKII. oK ,problem is I was told that motu will work with windows XP,the manual says not.A window comes up saying NOT. I call GC where I got it and I end up downloading something from MOTU. In the file it says it will work on XP.Real problem is I cant load any drivers. This I know is a very tuff question to ask on a forum but,I cant even figure out how to load drivers?? I thought the CD did that when I installed it. The Guitar Center salesman offered to come to my house for $50.00 per hour to help me! What a guy. Any help in where to start. If I pull up sonar,I guess its the main page,go to options,then click on audio then drivers there are none to choose from...blank! Help!!!
 
let me see if I have this right you go to:

options/audio options/drivers

and there is nothing there?

Have you run the wave profiler in the first tab of the Audio Options?

Another option would be to re-run the installation disc for Sonar and see if picks up the new drivers for your motu.

But as I re-read your post I am not sure if you are looking to load the updated XP drivers for the motu or just get Sonar to recognize them.

Neo,Im load a brand new sonar xl, not an update.Ive installed the dics amny time trying to reinstall think as you it might pick them up but no. If I go to my control panel I have I beleive the driver to do the job. 1 says its a wave driver and the other is a gsif for motu.Yes if I go to the options,drivers there are none!!! Ive done the wave profiler and it say something about in order for changes to take affect I have to restart my machine. Idid,nothing. It never tells me anything of use to me!!! Ah!!Jim
 
This works in 98se which is what I am still using.
1.go to add/remove programs in the control panel and see if motu324or pci324 is listed in there.If so click on them and remove at prompt.
2.shutdown your puter
3.pull the pci324 card out of your puter.
4.start you computer/click on the xp pci324 driver zipfile you downloaded from motu,expand and it should auto install the drivers you need.
5.shutdown puter install pci324 card in a slot that is not sharing an irq with anything.
6.Say a prayer,mantra,rub your crystal....
7.Starterup!

Seriously though,I have been through this with three different daw's on win98se using wdm drivers from beta1 through current and it definitely takes some perseverence,patience,and maybe an e-mail or two to motu support.

The good news is once you get it working it rocks
 
Keith, ok I did as you said. when I restarted my computer and went to sonar,clicked on option,then drivers it showed in the output drivers area 3 it said intagrated audio had a 1 2 3 then to the right side it had 1/2 3/4 5/6. I shut down computer,reinstalled pci card and check the same again,options,drivers,it now shows none with input or output.Now what!this thing is driving me crazy!!
 
I spoke to the guy that sold me the Motu and explained the situation and he says I'm screwed as I have windows XP home, a Compacq computer, Celeron prossor and something about the chipset that can not be updated. Basiclly my computer wont work with it even thought its a 1.2 g abd 512 in memory. Wish I knew this before I bought it!!!Make sence to anyone???
 
Hey man,the guy that told you that your brand of computer and your processor type had anything to do with being able to run MOTU is full of ....!
I first hooked up one of my motu's up to a 366mhz Celeron, Packard Bell computer from Compusa, off the shelf piece in 1998.
He's just giving you the; it's your fault blow off,don't think your puter is at fault the way he means it ,like I said before you CAN get it working,but it may be tedious.

Stage 2.
E-mail Cakewalk support tell um your problem and they will give you detailed uninstall/ reinstall instructions for Sonar.
While your at it drop a line to Motu also,can't hurt.

It's not as simple as going to add/remove programs.You must delete some registry keys that I don't remember.

If you want to try just using add/remove in control panel to uninstall/reinstall Sonar while you wait for Cake tech to reply,Go ahead,it may work.

Also,check out Cakewalks newsgroup,Product Sonar for help there are several Motu guys their runnin XP. Scott Reams for one comes to mine,he also has a site Liquiddaw I beleive.

Audioforums.com is another source for motu info though the motu forum isn't very active,the cakewalk forum is though.

P.S. Just a thought turn off
that integrated audio in your bios.
It may be sharing an interrupt with the pci324 card.
I have found my 324 cards don't like sharing interrupts with anything usb ,onboard sound whatever.
Since yours is store bought you may have to dig pretty hard to find the info about your pci slots and their interrupts
 
Looks like the driver CD you got was made before MOTU made XP drivers. Before installing anything under XP you ought to log on to Windows with the Administrator password (does XP Home Ed' do this?). In fact, to use Sonar fully, you should always log on as Administrator.
No audio device seems to like sharing Interupts (IRQ) but you could try fitting the MOTU pci card in a differant slot - dont put it in the top one nearest the built in ports - it always shares with the video.
You can free up IRQ by disabling anything you dont need in the bios "integrated peripherals" section, these might be...
1 Parallel port (if you don't use a printer or you have a USB one, you don't need this)
2 Serial ports 1 & 2 (only needed for external modems).
3 On board sound (integrated sound).
4 On Board USB (If you don't use USB devices).

I don't think there is anything wrong with the spec of your pc but the big brands often have them made their own way which can lead to distress when adding your own parts.

Every time Sonar starts, it checks the pc sound and midi ports, so if it hasn't found them, then they aren't there and there has to be something wrong with the installation of the card and drivers.

I'm being general here in assuming your MOTU interface uses a pci card. If it's one of these Firewire things, can't help you!
