Greetings,
I've been banging my head on the floor (really, try it - it hurts!) trying to get a midi file in Cakewalk Pro Audio to play using a sample loaded into Gigasampler LE. My sound card is an Echo Darla24, which is 2-in 8-out, multi-client and GSIF compatible (I do have DirectSound disabled). I can play samples in Giga and record into Cakewalk, but I can't get Cakewalk to trigger Giga. I did select the Endless Wave as output in Cakewalk, but how do I set up Giga? If anyone has gotten this to work, could you post specific settings for both Cakewalk and Gigasampler? I'm sure this has to work without the Hubis midi workaround thing, which I tried and had to remove because it messed up everything. My PC is running Win98 and I use an outboard mixing board (Mackie 1202VLZ). If some kind soul could enlighten me I then I could rest easy again knowing that I'm not a complete hack - - - -

Help Is On The Way...

Hold on JRay, don't give yourself a headache;)

I used to run GigaSampler LE & CakeWalk PA 7 together without too much trouble. I was basically using it as a composition tool and to play back some MIDI files I'd already composed.

Have you configured GS to use CakeWalk as your sequencer? It's important to fire up GS first, then select your sequencer from inside GS.

You must also load your instruments in GS then ensure that CW uses the same channels for each instrument. Don't have different channels between the two because the results will be the wrong instument playing.

I stopped using GS LE because it wouldn't let me record my guitar along side the MIDI tracks. :( That's the only reason. The samples I got with mine were superb. :) Are you using a MIDI-keyboard as your input?

From your post, you appear to have everything set up right, ie Endless Wave driver in CW, but if you are truly desperate for an answer, go to
http://209.216.16.19/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=16
and post your question there. It's the Tascam GigaStudio/Sampler bulletin board. Just be sure to post everything pertinent such as OS, audio card, sequencer etc.

Thanks BluesMeister!

Hey BluesMeister - -thanks for the encouraging advice! Actually, after posting I went back and carefully looked at my setup and discovered that I had assigned Cakewalk and Giga to different midi channels (doh!) - -so after changing that it worked! I have owned Gigasampler for a year and was using gigs from the web and finally took the plunge and bought a real sample library (Maximum Strength Steel Guitar by Matt Ragan) and it sounds amazing!! Very cool. I do use a keyboard (Korg DW8000 - don't laugh) but also the midi files included with the library are very good which is why I wanted to get this to work.
Thanks also for the tip to the Tascam forums - -don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Just a cursory search has turned up many useful posts on Cakewalk and Giga - -will be a great source of info. Cheers! Jim
