can't figure out how to monitor

using cool edit pro 2.0

can't figure out how to listen to the track, as it is recording.

anybody know how to do this?
 
You need a hardware device that you plug your source (mic, guitar,etc) into and that will also play back the previously recorded tracks. You monitor there. CEP does not allow listening to a track while you are recording it, without an external device of some sort.
 
So basically you're saying that I can't record JUST vocals while listening to the track via headphones....without recording both the track and vocals at the same time?
 
No, I'm saying you need an outboard device that has mic inputs and analog or digital inputs from the computer for playback. I monitor with CEP all the time, but it's through a digital mixer that's hooked up to the computer.
 
You should be able to listen to the track being recorded without any outboard divice. Just make sure that the playback option is not mute, or the vol too low. For example, when I record my vox I can mon the vox and the music track that I sing to. In this case the mic vol in the Play control must be adjusted so you can here yourself.
