Cant delete drum patterns (loop phrase)

Hi I am new. In the Boss BR 1200,I can't seem to delete the drum patterns. I want to delete it all and start again. I followed the steps on page 169. but the same drum pattern is still there. step (1) go to drum pattern edit screen. step (2) delete U001 . question why does it say" empty"? step (3) press F3 or "GO" Step (4) "sure" will appear. press yes. That should clear everything so I can start over and pick a new drum pattern. what am I missing? Thank You. Bob L.

My guess is you have a string of different drum patterns set up in a song file? You deleted the first pattern (step), so the next one then moves into that slot.
