can't decide which keyboard to keep!

I bought a prokeys 88sx off ebay for 300 bucks shipping included, which was a good deal. I like it quite a lot. It sounds great and the action, as far as semi weighted keys go, is very nice. What I LOVE is that it sounds good, feels good, and at the same time IS SO PORTABLE! It's only 17 pounds and it's really skinny.

I just picked up a prokeys 88 which is the sx's big brother, and goes for like 600 new. I got it for 300. GREAT deal. But I can't decide which one to keep!

The only thing I'd use one of the keyboards for is playing piano live. I don't need other sounds. The 88 has twice as many sounds but I don't care. It has eq adjustment though which is nice. But the only real thing I got it for was the hammer action. The hammer action is great. That's it's only feature I truly love that the sx doesn't have.

But it weighs 3 times as much and is twice as big. That's the issue. I don't know wether I should keep the 88 for the action, or wether I should keep the sx for it's amazing portability.

What is more important to you, action or portability? Would you sacrifice some action for portability, or vise versa?

Yo Antipasto:

"Life is but a dream...." Good line for a song! :D

I'd keep them both! You got good deals on the boards, they both work well, they both offer you something you enjoy and favor; thus, why divest yourself of either?

You can always put one up for sale if you change your mind or donate it to your college or a college and take the tax rebate. I did that with a NEW Roland KC-500 with no burn hours on it. So, I didn't bite the money bullet in total.

I think it's a good idea to donate new/good/used gear to your college of choice as the "kids' benefit and you get a small tax break or a large tax break.

Spring is coming along next week in the middle USA! It's about time too!

I'm in the "keep both" camp as well.

There's no question in my mind that you should use the lighter keyboard for gigging. Other than the pleasure of playing a weighted action, there is little need for it on a live gig.

Since you got such a good deal on the weighted 88, you might want to consider keeping that at home for your studio use.

What I do is have a separate keyboard rig for gigging, so that I don't have to tear down gear from my studio every time I go out to play. My studio and my live rigs are always fully functional and ready to go. I will pull a rack module or two when I need it for a gig, but that's as far as I a go with it. Everything else is independent.

So in your case I'd leave the 88 at home and take the 88sx to gigs. I have a Yamaha KX88 at home and use a Roland A-70 for gigging.
