Cannot Capture Line In

I have a very simple soundcard but i just want to record a signal input through the line-in. When i try, cool-edit says, "the specified device is already in use" I can hear the signal being played through the speakers. I am using a laptop if that helps at all.

Are you running any other programs at the same time? Some soundcards tend to lose their head when you are running several programs, like CEP and Cubase for example, at the same time.

i am only running cep when this occurs.
