Can you share "raw" files with DP-01

A friend and I are considering each buying a Tascam Dp-01 in order to record tunes asynchronously, since he lives 300 miles from me (he plays bass, I play guitar). Is it possible (and relatively easy) to share the raw files from one DP-01 to another?

In other words, could I lay down a guitar track (with backing drums) and then email him the file and have him lay down the bass?

Yes; you can either export a backup file, or the individvual tracks converted to .wav files. The filesizes may be large, so it would also depend on your email capacity. If nothing else, burn the back or wavs to CD and mail that.

Excellent, that's exactly the information I'm looking for. Thanks, Trillian.

BTW, I've read some reviews that the DP-01 has tendency for the hard drive to go bad. Any truth to this? Should I be concerned?

If you follow the correct procedure to shut off, and never turn it off when the HD is working, then you won't have any trouble at all.
Oh, and just in case, always backup your songs.
Cheers!

As mentioned in another thread, the HD in the DP-01 is no better or worse than any other; it's just the few who have had problems are the ones who write about it. Assume for every one you hear about, there are many more who have no problems, and therefore don't write. Besides, the drive is the easiest thing to replace if there is a problem at any point. Nico's advice is a good idea no matter what device you record with.
