Specs:
Xp pro
audiophile 192 connected to a reciever/stereo+monitor speakers.

This occurs reguardless of whether music is playing or programs are running. ive isolated it to my computer, yet im at a loss from there. It happens at random intervals averaging in the 5 minute range. Sound familiar?

Oh yeah.

I remember that one.

It was called 'Hi Q' on my Roland R8 drum machine. It was described by a reviewer at the time as a 'kissy-kissy synth snap'.

The solution is simple --- turn off the R8 and it will go away.

try going to the control panel> sounds and audio devices> sounds, and set the sound schemes to no sounds, that might work...

if you're surfing the net, it might be your popup blocker blocking a site. just a hunch..

so no ones ever encountered a problem like this and found it to be a hardware issue?

Nope. That sounds like an event-triggered noise, like 'You've got mail'

mine says, "Mail Mother F$%ker!"
from EuroTrip :D

I couldn't listen as I recieved one MASSIVE detail error message from you download link.
BUT
There's a thread somewhere around the BBS about optimising your XP PC for audio. It deals with almost all of the internal noise makers etc.
If you use your comp for things other than recording set up another user account specifically for recording & implement the reccos.
Search for it, implement as many of the suggestions as you can (there are step by steps instructions - I did most of it last week easy as & took abouit 1/2 an hour) and then see if the problem persists.
If it does you might need to try a comp tech.
