Can you hear the difference between MD and CD ??

on paper the math says "yes" there is a difference and you should be able to hear it ,but on most consumer electronic i doubt if you CAN tell the difference especially if the MD was recorded properly ,if not mastered.

Ive done CD-MD optical rips that sound 99% identical to the original CD

i doubt that this GREAT medium wil be accpected into the pro community fully (stereo medium and multi-track)

How many of you trust MD inside your setup ??

Yo Cooking Devil:

I have the MD8 in my studio; I have the 2816 by Yamaha in my studio.

If I run an old tape, say, cut on my much older Tascam 8 track into my 2816, I get startling results in 16 bit or 24 bit sound. I can do the CDR in 16 bit or run the 24 bit out the back of the box into cassette tape. But, the CDR is the better sound.

If I do the same with my MD8, the results are NOT as good. I have done some GOOD stuff with the MD8 but unless I'm missing a technique, the 2816 produces a better product.

I like both units but I don't use the MD8 much any more.

Green Hornet:D :p :p

Greenie Dude!

Take the direct outs of the MD8 and run them into the inputs of the 2816 and transfer raw tracks of a MD8 project straight in. Do it at 24 bit on the 2816. Then remix and master it onto CD. Is there a difference? what kind of difference? Then do a CD straight from the MD8 stereo outs, and see how that compares. Just for giggles ya know. Document your impressions and let me know :D
