Can you fry a keyboard?

Is it possible to blow the internal output circuitry on a keyboard? Sometimes I come up with patches that are so loud they clip unless you turn down the output or the volume (NLead3). The sound will eventually go from "splattering" to dropping out completely.
I know sending a signal like that will damage the rest of the signal chain, but is it also possible to fry the synth itself by over clipping?

Yes. Not likely, and it depends on the desigin of the keyboard, but yes it is possible
