Or not??? :D

Here's a new one.

My usual disclaimer:

I just finished tracking this and mixed it right away, which is never a good idea. But I like getting opinions from the good ears here, before I go too far into the process.

So, there might be some obvious things that need fixing that aren't obvious to me right now.

Any help is always appreciated.

Thanx

INDIAN SUMMER

Is the over all volume lower than usual? I ask b/c I had to turn the volume up on my end quite a bit more than I normally do. I liked the chorus much better than the verses. I like that little noise that comes in during the chorus (like right at :57). There are two places where it seems like the lead guitar hits a few sour notes (could just be my personal tastes though)...but it's at 2:19-2:22 and again at 2:34-2:39. I like the vocal sounds at the very end too.

Thanx a lot Sharon. I don't think the volume is low. It's pretty much the same volume as all my other tunes, averaging about -12.5db.

That "noise" that you like is vocals, actually. Thanx

I'm not sure I hear the sour notes you're talking about. But, I'm not a guitar player, so my bends might not be spot on.

That's cool. Better than the other way around. :)

I really appreciate that you took the time to listen and comment. This is still a work in progress.

Being a guitar player I'm always listening for guitar stuff.
The distorted track is really nice - biting but not fizzy.
That cool riff in there reminds me of Ride Ride Ride Let it Ride....whatever that song is.
Without trying to hear them I did notice there are a few notes that are close to being flat in that one section 220-225. Could be intonation or bends hard to say. The second listen confirmed it....Sounds like intonation. Darn floating bridges too....
The whole mix sounds good to me - it's leaning toward the preference side of things as your stuff always does....
The vocals sound great - that ending is fab!!! You need to incorporate that a few more times in future songs - make it a sig sound....Queen-ish!

:o...ooops...please allow me to modify my complement...:D

Those vocals that come in during the chorus (like at :57) are HOT!

nice stuff. The notes mentioned are just slightly flat. maybe fix with some editing. 2:56 sounds like the guy in Motley Crue singing.

Ido... that's Bachman Turner Overdrive. you should know those Canadian bands!! ''

Be neat if those "locomotive" vocals were really spread out in stereo and some other places where they happen too, but with a different part.

Hehe...I actually got a kick out of it. :D

Cool, man, thanx. You might be right about the intonation, I wouldn't know. But the notes that happen to be flat also happen to be notes I was bending to get to. So, I thought it was just bad technique...it's probably a little of both.

Thanx mix. Those vocals are singing a G7 chord, and that's the only place in the song where the music's doing a G7, so I can't really put them in another part. But it would be cool to have had them in a different part of the tine.

I wonder if auto-tune would fix those 2 little flat guitar notes. I never use it, so I don't know. Maybe worth trying.

Thanx a lot for all the help so far, y'all.

I like the song, but probably not one of your better ones. The bg vox don't have the unique Rami sound to them this time. They seem to lack space or depth or something. Sounds more like a keyboard patch. They are usually spread out more and more up front.

everything else sounds pretty good or already noted.

You're putting out a lot of material lately. I'm a little jealous, I can't seem to write anything I like.

Cool,

Haha, that one little da-da-da-da guitar part kind of sounds like that Cake song...he's going the distance! :D

I like it okay, but I don't think it's one of your better songs. The mix and arrangement kind of lacks the usual Rami hooks and elements that I've been spoiled with. I mean everything sounds pretty good, but it doesn't have a bunch of the cool stuff your songs usually have. There's no cool drum accents or ghost notes popping out. Your usual spot-on vocal harmonies are absent. Is that an organ or a synth I'm hearing? That's new. The mix is good. I like the kick/bass relationship. I'm not too crazy about the lead tone. It's a little much, but not too bad. Vocals sit in the mix well and nothing seems out of place.

Ha! Yeah, well they can't all be gems, but I'll throw them out there after I record them and see what happens.

No synths, man...Bite your tongue  Those are vocals.

I love that Cake song, and it's probably what I was thinking of sub-consciously, when I came up with that.

This is going to sound stupid, but in a way, I'm kind of relieved people aren't that crazy about this. It's actually an older tune of mine that I liked the chorus for, and re-worked the verses a little bit. So, it's nice to know my older stuff isn't better than my newer stuff. I'd hate it to be the other way around.

I do love my drum sound on this, though, especially the snare. But a good snare does not a good tune make.

Thanx man.

Lol. Sorry about the synth comment. It just kind of sounds that way. Like a choir vocal pad or something. It's very thick and locked in. :drunk:

I'm the same way about finishing something and putting it out there. Some get good feedback, some don't. I don't worry too much about it. My main focus is the mix. Your mix is pretty good here.

The mix sounds great, Rami.
I love those harmonies! How many tracks have you got going there?
Musically, all you gotta fix are those pitchy lead tones, but that doesn't sound like too much work to play them again. It's a cool song and your playing and singing is as good as ever.

This is pretty commercial sounding...a bit 80's, a bit 90's....the backing does sound like a synth, and unlike your other stuff this would really suite some keys...either something like that clicky B3 in my chillout tune or some sweeping analogue pads, each would put it in a different era..I know youre anti-synth ;) but this would really suite it imo, I can here them filling the tune up

Not keen on the leads tone but apart from that I think its one of your better tunes lol, no accounting for different folks...this is very radio friendly, mix is spot on, just needs a little padding :)

Thanx a lot, Joey. Those harmonies are 8 tracks, 4 parts each doubled. The reason they sound synth-ish to a lot of people is because, believe it or not, they're a little off with each other and I didn't auto-tune them. So, they're kind of chorusing with each other. When I did it, I was going to re-do the ones that were off, but then I heard them flanging with each other and thought it was pretty cool. It was a fortunate accident.

I'll have to try auto-tuning those bad guitar notes. I don't even know if the Antares Auto-tune I have is even working any more because I've never used it. This might be a good time to try it out.

Thanx a lot Joey!

Yeah, of all my tunes, I can hear maybe a nice B3 in the chorus. I'm not really anti-keyboard, I just joke around about that a lot. I just find most of my tunes don't need a synth in them. Real piano and organ, I like a lot. I'm a huge Deep Purple fan, and that B3 is a big part of their sound.

Like I said, they can't all be winners. You throw them out there and see what happens. Many of my tunes that I thought were weak ended up getting the best reviews, so sometimes it's hard to judge your own shit.

But I'm glad SOMEONE likes the tune. :D

Generally sounded real good. Solid performances.

Lead guitar sounds flat at 2:20, which was weird because it sounded in tune a few seconds earlier.

Now to me the bass/kick are too loud. And the kick is too loud relative to the bass. Might just be me, but they were really jumping out to my ear.

I like the ambient treatment on your tunes. What do you do with delays/reverbs/etc.?

The end was cool.

Hey Triple.

Yeah, the flat guitar is a result of a non-guitar player trying to bend notes. I'll try to find a way to fix that.

I also thought the bass and kik were loud, but nobody else mentioned it, so I had some doubt either way. I'll probably go back and turn them down a bit now that you mention it.

There's no delay in this song. I have reverb (Michael Gruhn Simple Reverb) on the drums mainly, some on the guitar and some on the vocals. All the same reverb on one send going to them in different amounts. That's about it.

Thanx a lot!!!

Hi RAMI!

I don't think your volume is down..but more being thinness of everything..usually your stuff is layered thick with energy, but this one has a *nakedness* to it..now, if that were a naked energy or raunchiness I was referrring to, then....

Just fatten up the guits..thump up the kick..snap up the snare..boom out the bass..and gut out those vocals...just a few tweaks here and there is all...:D

No matter what...this still has the Ramster's sig all over it.

guitar levels could come down a bit. the kick sounds a bit too punchy. Could use more low end from the bass too.
