Can you critique this mix please?

Just a newbie here. This is a song from my friend’s band. I personally really like the song, and I hope I did an almost half-assed job recording it. Some gear:

drum mics- D112, M88, 421's, SM57, C1000's for overheads (I'm re-thinking using these mics as overheads)
57's on Guitar amps
direct bass
Beta 58 for vox

Mackie 1604 to Delta 1010 into Cubase VST on my mac

Hafler TA1600 to Tannoy Proto J's in a really crappy sounding bedroom.

First time ever recording acoustic guitar. I used a 414 and a NT1.

They are a very young band.
 
Very nice, i like the song. It reminds me of Irish folk punk if there is such a thing.

my levels bled a little i think but the recording stayed intact.

Are you using compression on the kick drum at the end?
 
pretty good...

not my particular genre of taste bot doable. I had no problem listening to the track with the exception that, though I don't have an accurate tool for monitoring levels, it seems through my pc speakers that the recording could possibly have been clipping at spots (or maybe just some excessive distortion...) not an engineer so don't quote me here, but I like the overall presentation of the song...and the "borrowed chorus"...well it works fine for me.

Yeah the song is pretty cool. Lyrically a little rough, but musically it was pretty good. The electric guitars sound terrific. The doubled parts were out of sync here and there in the verses, not sure if that was intentional. I'm guessing it was intentional.

There were some tempo issues here and there, especially early in the song. The acoustic sound was ok, but just ok. Bass sound was good, but I didn't care for the player.

You might try a bit more reverb on the vocals. I heard a clip or two here and there. The meters are pegged.

Good overall job.
 
Thank you very much for the comments. I was trying out the loudness maximizer plug in for cubase. I guess I overdid it.

How could I improve the acoustic guitar? I think it needs some more sparkle. The guitar was a nice sounding Martin in a big room w hardwood floors. I want to attempt more acoustic in the future so any help would be appreciated.
 
Nice song, it's not really my style but you pulled it off pretty well :)
Maybe a bit more punch on the kick drum would be good, i like the guitar tone although it does sound SLIGHTLY muddy (at least on my PC speakers). I think the signal was peaking a bit at around 2:22 so check that out. Everything else is cool :) wd

I'm listening on headphones,so take it for what it's worth.

You said you used 2 different LG. diaphram mics on it.
The balance sounds off on the stereo,louder on the right side.
Was that the 414?

I usually watch the meters and get the closest balance between the two when tracking,makes it eaiser later.
With 2 differant mics their going to jump around a bit.

If you want a really full sound,you could double track it with the 414,you can get a wider sounding stereo spread that way too.
Might be worth it since it's carrying a good part of the song.

Did you cut the lows to fit it in the mix,sounds like it's lacking some.

I switched to a light pick too,helps with any harshness when your strumming,don't know if that helps any.

pretty neat tune man, I like the message of it.... the bass sounded a little eq starved, using a pick sometimes creates a wrestling match with the thwack on the kick, so one or the other needs to find a new tonal position. I didnt like the kick that much, after everything is playing it sounds like a wood batter against a fairly loose head without hearing the drum, not enough tone. The acoustic guitar is good, like the other gentleman said, it lacks a touch of body in it on the low end. The electric guitar is good too but a bit dominant in the mix for me.
 
Not a lot to critique here that hasn't been mentioned already. I don't think a real polished recording would fit with the vibe of the tune.;)

The low mids are piling up a bit in a few spots, and I thought the stereo spread on the overheads was a bit wide.

I think the acoustic sound is fine for this tune. Any bigger and your just going to piling on more low-mids. Maybe just a tad of chorus on it to fatten it up a bit. Not too much!
