is it possible to remove background music or noise from a wave? I want to make a techno remix of a song and only want the vocals can someone help me out?

I don't think your going to have much luck with this one. If you are going to go as far as recording the music, why not re-do the vocals. If you can not sing, you can always find someone else to sing. Also depending on what you are trying to accomplish, is it moral to try and use someone somebody elses recording.
Well, I know I've seen plugins/routines that will supposedly remove vocals from a mix...the whole kareokee thing. Of course this sort of thing isn't 100% effective as it simply chops out certain frequencies...probably not too desireable at all.
BUT, there would have to be a way to reverse something like that. Like maybe subtracting a mix with the vocals removed from a mix with the vocals intact.
Depending on what he's inserting into, it might not sound too bad.....
to remove vocals is basically to double the tracks and then change the phase on one track. Since the vocal is smack bang in the middle, it will be eliminated.
Sonic Foundry soundforge has this feature as well as many other programs, but whenever u use it , u still have to deal with the reverbs and echoes that were panned off center.
