I wanna take a midi file on my computer, strip it down to drums, run a midi cable to my Alesis SR 16 to be driven by the file and then record the SR16 analog output into 2 tracks on a Tascam DP-02CF.....??? ( Just ordered on of those screwed up ones that says "Portastud" )

It should be straight forward. Open your midi file into you daw, if it is a GM midi file (it should be if it plays back on any midi device) it will be split up by midi channels for all the various instruments. Copy channel 10 to a new midi track with the tracks output set to the SR-16. Make sure that the SR-16 is receiving on ch10
