im recording cover songs for bands (me playing the guitar part)
i have the drums in a .mid file, i import them into cubase SX 2, and the midi track is there. i start to record the guitar which works fine, and when i play it its fine to....but, how to i export them all to an mp3, or do i have to convert the midi file to a wav first?

(p.s. i know how to export audio, it just doesnt export the midi track.)

thanks.

To convert your MIDI to wave you have to take the follwoing steps.

1) Mute all tracks other than the midi track you want to convert.
2) Plug your output into an input channel of your soundcard or mixer.
3) Record onto an Audio track the midi output.

I'm not sure if that is the quickest or best way of doing that, but its the only way I have found.

im not sure what you mean by number 2.
the midi is from a guitar pro tab.

ive tried rendering them using synth font, with soundfont that is the same as the one used in guitar pro, but the drums then become out of time with the origional drums.

What he means is that whatever midi instrument you have that is making the actual audio sound has to have those outputs directed to one of the inputs on a audio track in cubase so that you can record it as a .wav file.

i still dont get what you mean. i have a midi file. i did not make that midi file, so what im guessing is i need to convert it to a wav.

i found a site on the net that shows you how to set winamp to render the midi, and this time it has worked - the drums were in time, unlike using sythfont.
the only drawback to using winamp is that you have to play the midi file, but i guess i can live with that untill i can afford a drum machine :D

thanks for the replies tho.

it sounds like what you need to do is drag your marker from the start to the end of the song so that it is all highlighted. then click file, then export, then select audio mixdown. everything within the highlighted area will be saved off as a wav to your desired location.

Sorry if I was unclear with my response.

A MIDI track is not sound as such, it is a set of commands that can be interpretted by a MIDI module to make sounds. Therefore, there is no way of telling the computer "turn that into a wave form" unfortunately.

I'm not sure if this is the best way of doing it again, but what you *could* do is plug the output of your computer into a recorder - say a minidisk player or even another computer, then record the MIDI onto that. Then its an easy job to record/import that back onto your computer with Cubase.

Hope I've been able to help in some confusing way.
