Can somebody show me how to record music and voice into one audio piece?

Hello!

I have no experience whatsoever in recording or mixing so I’m hoping somebody can help me out here!

What I’m trying to do is play a CD with music and then record my voice (thru my mic) in the background to create an audio piece that has combined both the music and my voice. I want the music to be the main thing heard on the piece but also my voice which can be heard in the background.

I purchased AVS Audio Utilities and TotalRecorder. I know how to use totalrecorder b/c I use it to record streaming radio from the internet. The AVS Audio Utilities is rocket science to me. I don’t even know how to use it.

I can play the cd on my computer and have a mic/headphone connected to my computer. I don’t know what the brand of the mic is but it says CA and then AC-100 on the side. It’s like the one the operators on phones have.

Can somebody tell me how to do this with what I currently have and how to go about doing it?

Thank you in advance! :)

If I were doing it in my system I would rip the instrumental audio from the CD (that is, record the CD tracks onto my hard drive), then record my own vocal track to it. If you simply mic the speakers playing back the music you will get inferior results.

I don't know specifically how you would do that with what you have, but likely there is a way.

I have not heard of those progams either. If I were talking to somebody in your position that had no software I would recommend they download n-tracks.
