Today I bought an M-Audio Fast Track interface. Paired with my Shure mic in Cakewalk, the sound quality is excellent, but there's a catch; all the line-in stuff records in the right channel only, and all the MLR Mic'd stuff records left channel only. Anyone know how to solve this? Mixing the mic's stuff all the way to the right just kills all sound completely, and it's keeping me from doing any recoridng at all....

pan it in the middle

You have to understand that you are recording in mono...not in stereo.
Mono=one
You are using ONE microphone...so you are to record in mono. To record in stereo you would need to record with two microphones

However, don't confuse this with playing back in stereo. When you use two speakers coupled with a stereo output on your interface...you're listening in stereo.
This is how typical recording works. You use one microphone to record someone's voice...so it records in mono. But you pan it in the center in your software program and it comes out both speakers.

Unfortunately your interface does not have stereo inputs, so you can't record in stereo (unless you have an external preamp to run into the line inputs the same time you're using your mic input with another microphone).

Your software program is calling channel 1 the left channel and channel 2 the right channel. It's trying to record a stereo track when you only have a mono channel...so it's playing out the left/right side only.
You need to somehow create a mono audio track and set it to record channel 1/2. Then it will record properly.

but if i were to record say three different tracks, pan them in the middle, and export them to wav, then put my headphones on... everything is in the left channel. this is a bad thing
