i changed my soundcard and now i don't have an option to change my MIDI playback device in the control panel. the only thing it will let me select is my new soundcards MIDI out cable. is there anyway to get my cakewalk to use my virtual piano to make some noise when it plays back? right now i've got zip..nothing. anyone got anysugestions???

Most likely your new sound card does not have an onboard synth.

What Cakewalk program are you using. If Sonar, you can use a DXi. Try the Edirol VSC.

If PA9, then you're kinda out of luck. You might want to reinstall your old sound card along with the new one and just use it for MIDI.

some free version of cakewalk. maybe express? but none of my MIDI programs will make noise (TEFView, Acid midi files,) etc. i can play the virtual piano in cakewalk, and it makes noise. so i was hoping to use it as a MIDI playback device.

Well, at least you can tell us general info of your setup, eg. what's your soundcard brand / name / type, what OS you use, etc...

Sorry, it is a Windows ME computer with a M-audio audiophile 2496 sound card. and yes the sound card does not have any onboard noise makeing ability.
