can i use my dj amp for monitors?

I currently have a big honkin yamaha amp p-2200
would i be able to use this to power some monitors?
or would that be too much power

it currently is running 2 18" altec's
but i obviously can't monitor with those but i don't really want to buy another amp

if this works then that would be great but if not then i might just get some "active" monitors and not have to buy another amp

Is that the black one with the two VU meters on it? Pushes something like 500 watts? If so a studio I know has been using one to push it's NS 10s for years.
 
yup black and two VU's
its a pretty solid amp

and i was actually looking at getting some ns10's
so that might be a great match
