Hit it, yo... with all you've got.. tear it apart.

If you want, that is.

Just a fun little project. The vocals are far from perfect... I kept them because I recorded most of the parts on video as well and planned on putting a vid together with the song, but haven't finished that, yet. Otherwise I would have redone the parts more until I liked them. hahah. It's a big hassle getting the camera to record as well (esp. when the memory card is too slow for HD and half the time I get an error when trying to record).

Blah.. enough of that.

Oh.. I did do all the parts, and I am definitely no drummer. I play them like once every 4 months if I'm lucky.. but yes they have been pocketed, for my timing on drums isn't so great. Wish I had a set to practice on.

Wow... Love the separation of the guitars... Stereo effect is wonderful. I really like the tone of your voice, but it was super off pitch in places... I'd re-do the vocals if I were you. You can nail it...

Really like the vibe of this song.

There are parts, though, where the performance of the instruments is just off... Like wrong notes are being played, and it gives it a very amateurish feel, and that's a shame, because I really like the songwriting, and arrangement.

The drums need to be re-done, too. They're okay, but they could be adding much, much more to the song.

Toward the end of the song, there's a solo-ish guitar panned hard right. Get rid of it. It's horribly detracting. If you want to solo, I'd recommend giving the guitar the spotlight for a moment, and then going back to vocals.

Uhh... toward the end of the song, something is horribly out of tune.... This song started out really good, and ended sounding bad.

I'd recommend honing your writing / arranging skills, and then get people who can play their instruments well to play your songs for you, while you record them. Your recording / mixing / writing / arranging abilities far outshine your musicianship on the instruments.

Keep at it!

Thanks for the input, Poetic. I really appreciate it. Normally my performances would be much refined, but I recorded all of them on video (mostly) and thus didn't want to redo them all to perfect them. I just kept the crap.. and that "lead" guitar is extremely messy.. I just threw it on there and said 'heck with it'.. lol...

So yeah, I know the entire thing is extremely rough.. but thanks again so much for your input -- it helps me realize how much I need to work on these things.

I didn't notice the out of tuneness toward the end so much.. maybe my ears suck, too. idk. I guess I'll listen to it some more, and more closely.

nice sound, clear and plenty to keep the listener interested...nice voice and performance..

Maybe its a little sloppy at parts but I kinda like the looseness...the drums didnt sound too bad to me

You're right about the lead guitar bit over the verses but I hear what you're getting at and that "sound" would work

good job Austin

Thanks, kcearl. Encouraging words.

Does the KC in your name refer to Kansas City? Do you live there?

Hey, just gave this a spin and I thought it sounded pretty good man :).

So this is a cover? Who does the original? A little more mainstream than what I'd normally choose to listen to, but I guess that don't matter too much.

I think you have a good singing voice. I thought the performance was mostly fine but there were some things about the mix and the arrangement that stood out a little to me anyway.

I liked the drum playing for the most part, but I thought the snare seemed a bit dull and dark. I'd think you'd want it kinda mellow sounding for a tune like this, but the sound you got on this was a little too mellow imho.

Also, the hi hat sounded kinda thin and all-by-itself like off to one side a little bit. I thought to myself it sounded odd and should have more mid-body to it and somehow not sound so distinct from everything else...

I also found myself waiting for the song to open up a bit towards the end with a bigger sound, more energy...something, but I didn't feel like I got that. Not knowing the original I suppose arrangement comments are off base, but that's just what I was thinking at the time. I did however really like the little break with the high bass part towards the end. Nice work overall so far. :)

Thanks for listening, heatmiser! A band called "Starfield" plays this song, which you can listen to here.

The arrangement is pretty much identical to theirs.

I EQ'd the snare to brighten it up and all, but I think it's so mellow because I don't hit the drums very hard, maybe. I don't play with much authority, because I'm not too confident on drums..

I agree that the song should definitely open up a lot more toward the end somewhere with more parts and such.

I think that high bass part in the bridge has a great feel with the drums -- I would have more parts like that with substance for the song if I wasn't "weighted down"/"restrained" by the fact that I was recording most parts on video (and was getting tired of running the camera)..that bass part was not done on video, as I just dubbed it in.

Thanks again!
