Can I safely hot swap my vidio monitor?

I just tried a switch box for my two-pc-one screen set up. Right off it looks duller, then I found out that the switcher contacts are poor -moving the knob distorts even further.
What I want to try befor taking it back is just patching in the added cable in (without the box) to see how much is just cable losses.
The switcher is an inexpensive 'Inland' KVM.

Not preferable yet I've never encountered problems while doing it. And I do it a lot. But... no guarantees.

Thanks. I've switched cables a little 'late' a few times in the past myself but i played it safe this time and did it the slow way.
So far, things look ok with the extra cable, the switching seems to be the worst of it...

hot swapping monitors cn't hurt I guess, but I've experienced the same problems with these cheap analog KVM switches...
gonna invest in a digital one and some better cables (75$ isn't that much imo)
