i think with real mixer you can put reverb in vocal channel and singer can hear it when they record?
can i do that with my gina20bit?
thnx

If you have a mixer of any make you can apply an effect that your singer can hear in the cue mix but isn't being recorded . IMHO, recording anything with an applied effect is a bad idea unless you're absolutly sure you like it. Adding effects should be done at mix down. Think about it. Say you do a vocal and the performance was killer but there's too much reverb recorded on it, you're hosed.

I agree with Track Rat that it is better to add effects after recording, except for compession:) I apply compression while recording(composer) almost anything with a mic. In some rare cases iI do not, buit those are RARE;)
I never compress drum overheads, for example, but I have yet to get a great drum sound. Coincidence?

Yo Istyle and instyle and not out of style:

Unless you are recording with two tin cans and a piece of string, you can hear the FX reverb while you are recording with almost any type system. I have used the Tascam 488, and now the Yam MD-8; both boxes could let the vocalist record, hear lots of reverb, but the reverb was not really being recorded.

On the other hand, there is a way, like push some buttons, and the reverb FX can be recorded with the take.

It is always helpful for a vocalist to hear the voice with FX; it's a big sound; even makes me sound good. Thus, a more relaxed take.

Now with your rig, I'm sure you can do it either way; you can hear the FX while recording or you can record the Fx direct. Check with the Gina folks or your "manual."

Enjoy the changing leaves.....[sounds like a title for a song?]

YO C7 and not diminished chord:

The chord of your response is the missing chord; congratulations. I've been looking for that chord for my entire career.

But, all I was talking about was that most recording boxes will let you HEAR THE FX but it won't be recorded unless you push the buttons that will record FX with the first take.

Other than that, what were you saying????

Before you answer, let it lixiviate through your timbre for a bit.

istyle - C7sus is right in how to achieve it and you are right in wanting to do it. Now you've got to get a mixer of some sort - anysort. :)

Cheers

Depending how flexible the routing of the Gina is, you may be able to do it without a mixer. If you can route the input of the gina to another output of the gina, you could send that out to the reverb box, and bring it back in to another input, and monitor the verbed signal. Again, I don't know if the Gina can do this, but maybe.

A mixer would be the most flexible route. You could send an output of the gina to the reverb and then to a spare channel or two on your mixer. Many different ways to achieve the same thing.
