Can I Just Use...

My 564 portastudio as a mixer for now. I don't have the money for a mixer, and I don't really want to sell it. It has 4 direct channel outs.

So if I set up 2 soundcards, like I was told, can I just run through this into the four inputs on the PC?

Will it Suck?
 
Yes you can use it as a mixer. However it will not compare, by any standards to a "real" mixer, or a dedicated preamp. But it will do the job until you get enough cash for some more equipment.
 
Like 2lim said, you can use it as a mixer....what 2 cards are you using?....you may experience some sync issues......
 
I was planning on getting 2 Ensoniq Audio PCI cards for now. I was told that there's a way to install 2 cards, so you can get 4 inputs simultaneous. You have to label one of the cards different or something.

I dunno??
 
Turtle beach santa cruise has 4 inputs on it and they are 18 bit word length while I belive the ensonic has 16 bit ones.
