I liked the guitar work, I don't entirely like the drums, but they're not unbearable. I like the flow of the song except the sudden ending, it has an unfinished feel.

However, I don't know what you did to the mix, but honestly, it's terrible. The signal to noise ratio was killing me, and the volume non existant. The whole mix lives entirely in the bass range. no mids or highs whatsoever. It sounds like it was dumped from a 4 track tape totally mono. The one strong point was the guitar tone. very nice tone.

Because I liked it, I decide to play around with some mastering on it so I could hear it. I think it came out pretty good in the end. now I've got to try these new toys on my own bad mixes.

If I can get it to you somehow, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised, and it better displays the talent and the overall feel you were trying to get.

Email me with info to send it to you or directly to your website and I'll be glad to send it. Torpid_X@hotmail.com ... or I can up it to my nowhere radio account and you can get from there.

Just listened to the mix you done and it is wicked man!!!!!!
Rippin!!!!!!!
I didn't think you could make a crappy drum machine sound like it does now.
Cheers for that.
Now I need to get my guitars fixed, a powerpack for me drum machine and a new soundcard, and I can get back to recording again. I miss it.

you got mail... I'm in the drum machine (and bass right now) boat too, only I use soundfonts and piano roll in cake. your drums actually have natural feel to them, that's why I liked it.

Nice treatment to the Mountain song. Good vocal and guitar.
decent recording. Wow, Leslie West still lives!!

Torpid-x - I listended to the unfinished piece. good guitar work. I am listening on cheap computer speakers, but the recording sounds good from here.

Eurythmic - I really liked "We Cried". The triangle opened the mix up nicely and the guitar work was really good. You say this your best recording and it shows.

Teacher - Nice instumentals. The drums seem to overpower the mix a little. Very nice though

Cross Studio - Ghetto Clique: Great Rasta beat, nice blend of vox.

Spacedye - I listened to the 9/11 and the Apollo tunes. You captured a feel for 9/11 and Apollo. The samples were too faint though. I couldn't really get a feel for what they saying w/o blasting the music (which is ok, but...). You asked if anyone thought you sucked or something like that, No Way. Good stuff, really good keyboard work. I had trouble using the drag N drop drummer program and you seemed to do well with it. Great tunes.

Heres a song I really shouldnt post

Here is my first attempt at recording with Sonar: Its certainly not done yet. I know that the vocals are poor and strained and that the drums are the pits and at times they dont even sync with the song!!.
thats why Im trying to find a better way of recording drums as in my other posting. Also the mix needs some help.
But my wife thinks its good. She Loves me , :) I know. I actually can sing a lot better at times as well, Its the sound quality that Id like feedback on.

Its not like anything Ive seen posted here thusfar, kind of a pop ballad/Christian thing done by someone better at writing than performing, I guess.

sounds good

I did all theses using Cakewalk and a Direct Pro -

www.mp3.com/ImLoyal

Not bad. I am using ProTools now and actually the first song "no time to kill" was done in Pro Tools all else cakewalk and Sonar.
My Direct Pro is listed exclusively here in "Ads for musicians". I figure I'd give the home rec community a shot at it first. I love it - it does everything and does it well. It works flawlessly with Sonar. I am damn broke (freelance audio post and comp world is a little rough right now) and heading to Italy next month. Anyone interested or any questions feel free to ask.

wfaraoni - Good tune. I think you could track everything better. The acoustic could of had a fatter sound imo. can't really make any suggestions here. I don't mic or play accoustic.

The vocals sounded overly processed, the performance wasn't the problem. There is a sterio widened sound to the vocals, and reverb mud, could be the reverb causing the sterio effect. I could definately hear it as if it was two separate panned tracks, rather than a tightly focused center. I'd suggest keeping everything panned center using mono tracks. I couldn't really understand what you were saying but should have been able to, judging by performance.

The drums, well, they weren't really there at all. just a couple of hits. Your guitar track has a flow to it, I think it should be pretty easy for you to create a beat to follow the flow of the tune. Think funky and syncopated, like the guitar is. don't worry so much about the sounds, just lay a track down. as long as you have a midi track, you can find the sounds later. Personally I hear a moving kick and steady snare for it.

After you lay the drums.... needs bass. midi'll do the trick.

UZZA - thanks for the listen and kind words, crappy speakers prolly did it justice.

crosstudio and Lorddiagram - I'd love to listen, but it's the mp3.com thing. (see page 1)

Thanks for the feedback. Yes you are absolutely right the vocals part was chorused on two tracks. I kind of like the chorus effect. But your the first person to say he could not understand the words. I know that the verb is a little heavy but I did not think it made the words indistinguishable. Its hard for me to tell because I know what to expect. I will test some listeners by quizzing them next time I get an audience. ThaT way I can tell if they are just being polite or if its that tough to tell. thats whats nice about this board you get some honest answers.
I also agree that the guitar is thin. My amp was unavailable and I used a standard strat mic ed through a fender champ bass amp. ,,pretty bad I did manage to get the acoustic sound I wanted but could not get the shrillness out without making it mud as well.

The drums are in there but they are set low because of the lack of proper timing. actually Ive got a recording where they are better but I posted the wrong one. Anyway when I do it again Ill use my line 6, and that should help the guitar. I may also try micing the midi drums out of the keyboard through the amp as well I think that will help some.
I appreciate the feedback and honest critique.

hey teach, your tracks are tight!
What type of equipment do you have?
I have sonar 2, acid pro 3, behringer mx160ra mixer, yamaha psr-260 keyboard, DR-5 drum machine and t-rack mastering software.
What else would you recommend if i'm trying to do hiphop and r&b?

I multitrack in Sonar. I just started learning the automation, and some other advanced features it has. You can do tight work if you know what to use. I have some tracks on MP3.com, too. You can check 'em out at :
mp3.com/RUCKUS_ENTERTAINMENT
I live in Orlando, but I'M from New York, so the style of the south blends with the north for me. I heard the the "To the Top" track. It was tight. Alot of producers on MP3 really don't seem to put any effort into their work, but you got skills. Keep that up and you'll get to the top.

Is love was pretty darn impressive. But how did you talk stevie wonder into the collaboration :). Sounds professional to me.

Thanks for the listen. Very Nice arrangement and catchy too. Worthy of taking some time and working the final mix some IMHO.
I guess my posting still retains the most the amatuer song yet prize!!

Is Love..

Thanks WFARAONI!. I still see alot more potential in it. I'm really just learning about using effects with the auxes in the mixer screen. I didn't use any in that screen on this project; everything was pretty much effected in the main screen on individual tracks. Once I can get a good grip on that, I'll be happy. Anyway, the song is really just a simple R&B cut, but it helps to have a good artist who knows what they want. KC has performed and recorded quite a bit (300+ shows), with his old group. Now he's stepping out on his own to pursue solo interests. For a kid only 18, he's got a future if he works hard. Thanks for the compliment. I try to do good work. I was once told on this very bbs, that since I only charge $20- $25 bucks an hour for my studio, I would only ever produce $25/hr quality. It ain't about the peripherals, its all about the product. Sonar's great, and you really can do good work with it. Thanks again.

Mooooost impressive danileson-ooops I mean SLuiCe-What kind of processing you use for vocals? Any of the stuff in Sonar?
