Can I hear some of the Music you guys are Recording with Cakewalk?

Sometimes i think us DAW users get caught up in specs and things like that and forget whats really important the music.

I think it would be good for us to hear how each other mixes sound so if there is something we like about the particular mix we can ask how it was done

i came over here cuz I wanted to hear CAKEWALK mixes not cubase logic protools etc...i want to HEAR CAKEWALK thats y i think this belongs

and i know some cakewalk users(like myself) don't go there but just go here..so thats y i did it

Lo-fi play on a phone connection just does'nt cut it.
I think it's a legitimate request to ask for a listen in this forum given the context of your question,when (if ever) I get something posted I may do the same.

I don't know what difference it makes which software you use, what Plug-ins would be more important. I did a side by side comparison myself after the recent thread you posted in the computer recording section, no sound difference to me at the recording level, using the demo's.

I suck just as bad on Logic and SX as I do on Cake, but here's my link again....

software = Sonar 2 on Win 2k, Sound forge 5.

these mixes use no automation, aw-natural, and sonars plugs only (minimal). fade out via sound forge.

direct line guitar through an old digitech processor, sound font drums and bass.

o contrary i think Lo-fi is good cuz if ur mix isn't bad it accentuate the mistake more...thats been my experience

i listened to i'll get back at u...mix sounds clean vocals sound good but i thought there was a LACK of low end badly sounded thin as hell no Ommphh(i don't mix this t ype of music so i don't know how its supposed to sound and maybe thats how u want it to sound)

The first 5 songs in the list were mixed in cakewalk. I'm happiest with the song "Then and Now" but in general im not too happy with these recordings-It was my first time with cakewalk-I was battling against automation at the time and some of the tracks were recorded to tape and dumped in-so they were 16 bit all the way through. I wish you had your stuff at nowhere radio-it's alot easier on the listener-no logging in filling stuff out etc.

I agree, very good mix. The vocals could have been just a tad louder, but still a good mix.
 
I just listened to Nantucket Sleigh Ride.
I've always liked that song alot, and you do a pretty good job.
Are you doing this with other musicians?
 
Teacher, sorry you didn't like the mixes. Just my humble opinion but I felt at the time the bass was appropriate to the style of the tune. I listened to "To The Top". I can't comment on the mix because, like you, I don't listen to the style of music. I suppose you're waiting for vocals on it (The looping of the strings got a bit monotnous for me. I'd imagine vocals would break it up).

Eurythmic, I just listened to "We Cried". Great sound on the acoustic guitars. The vocals and backing vocals are excellent. Sounds like a record to me.
Stratomaster, you should be proud of "Then And Now". I dig the slide guitar.

I liked what you both did.
Teacher your the hip hop right? lots of depth in the percussion. Is that loop work. are they tracks, midi or the real thing mic ed? how about a brief on how you got all that drive. bravo!!

track rat: your stuff hit home with me, I wish I could do as well, I like the arrangement and the vocals,(back at you) though a little soft in the vocals I think. for what sounds like a lot of vocal talent as well. Show off what you've got man. But what do I know I think Im half deaf. I have trouble hearing words on just about anything. I think a little more drum punch and you will have professional perfection of your work.
maybe teacher can give you some tips on adding to that very slight but noticable thinness. The jam song (latin) Dont touch it,Sell It!! Nantucket, well two out of three aint bad. The lead in just does not go wth the rest IMHO , but what do I know Im a newbie.
Sounds like all youll need is some promotion for a very marketable CD if you keep in the style of the first two. Thanks for the opportunity to preview your artistry. Im gonna go back and listen again :) I really loved that jam

stratmaster! Are you trying to tell me that these were done in cakewalk?!? Was it a home studio? Sounds more like a pro job to me. Did you also do the mix downs in cakewalk? Boy have I got a lot to learn.:(
who taught you the program? Give me some tips please. how are you recording ie. what ins outs amps mics etc.!!! give me/us a few tricks you must be using.
I know I wont get one to sound like yours because you are pros but I think your sound is awesome and Id like to get the sound right even if I dont have the raw talent to perform at your level. Do you have to pay to post on the site you linked to?

All else being equal, the recording program you use shouldn't make a difference.

i didn't say i didn't like the mix i just said i thought it lacked low end but u said it was intended that way then all things considered it was pretty good

How I made my tracks:

recorded @ 24/48 wit a delta 66

What i think is most important the source

To the Top I used a Planet Phatt and Korg Karma for drums

Something Dirty an ASR-X was used

then I mixed externally thru an Analog Mixboard(Mackie 1402vlzpro)
I think thats important cuz mixing down internally i think flattens the drums, could be my superstition.
I mix directly from the source i don't first track to cakewalk, just 1 A/D conversion to a Stereo Track

Then I exported them to wavelab to "master"

I used PSP Vintage warmer as my 2 bus compressor and tape simulator, which also has a 2 band eq on it so i added a lil bit of lo and hi to the mix to my taste and played wit the frequency till i got a desired sound

then i added Waves Renaissance Bass(this is what really makes the low end come alive) played wit untill the low end sounded good

then i used TC reverb

then I used Waves L2
threshold -2.
out ceiling -.3

ARC(auto release control)

noise shape Ultra

most important thing in the mix is mixing it properly wit the levels when mixing down to the 2 bus stage

if u saw my logic vs DP thread u would of seen that it does matter which program u mix in, if u can't hear most likely ur not used to ur room and ur monitors or u have speakers and prolly would never hear the difference cuz the sound is so colored

and i listened to ur mix of "Coda" to u purposedly make sound all spaced out and hollow and "reverbed out", but u need a new sound card u can hear it in the back ground..no offense it was pretty bad sonically but that might be due to cheap equipment
 
Torpid X- Listened to collier

cymbals are way too loud, they're at the point of giving ear damage...my ears are still ringing ;)

kick was too low unless that was of it was intended

too much reverb or it was just kinda hollow and "digital" sounding

I don't even like that music and i was vibing to it u were killing the guitar, the cymbal didn't decay long enuff for my taste and the kick wasn't punchy enuff either for my taste but if its urs i would say this a real good mix and u have a good band, i would love to do some kind of hip hop collab wit u ;) :D

and i'm guessing then and now sounds 10 times better i'ma haveta dl it later cuz this one does sound a bit thin but thing again its 64kbps encode too
