take a listen to the song titled "Tides". does anyone have any possible feedback on mixing, production and/or mastering?

would be great to get your views on this, it was my very first production of a track.

I noticed you listed City and Colour and Damien Rice as influences. I love them. I think you should go for a more organic recording...like the artists you admire.

I'm not going to say that the guitar and vocal reverbs on this are "out of place," because they could work in a Pink Floyd soundtrack kind of way, but I think it's over the top for a single. I think the guitar verb is fine, but the vocal "warehouse" setting is masking the vocal, somewhat.

So much of this is personal preference, that I'll try to stick to one thing that's not - there are a few places where the vocal is unintelligible. Try listening to the song and making sure that you can make out EVERY word, and in those spaces where you can't, envelope it up a bit...or kill some of the attack on a guitar note that conflicts with the vocal.

also...@ :35 seconds...the chromatic chord thing there would be cool, but it actually is a bit out of tune. Fix that.

Anyway...dark, but uplifting kind of a tune. I like stuff like this.

when you say organic, how exactly should i record the guitars and vocals? i'm using a rode NT1a for vocals.. and what should i do production wise on them?

thanks btw :)

I mean make it sound more like i'm in the room with the guitar and the singer...not watching them from 1,000 feet away.

I think the tones were recorded fine...maybe try a small plate on the vocal? Or a small Hall...I'm not sure. The guitar would do fine with a tiny bit of delay and no verb, I think...those are things I'd try. Not sure if they'd work or not.
