Can I get Mic???

I would like to record my singing through cool edit pro. Right now I use a cheesy 8 dollar computer mic, which sucks and makes alot of background noise and pops. Is it possible to make good quality audio recordings with just getting the right microphone for Cool edit? If so, please let me know what and where I can purchase one.
Is it important top have some type of mixing board along with a good mic and a good sound card? I'm clooless, please HELP!!!

Question 1: Do you actually have Cool Edit?

If so, get yourself a decent mic, preamp (or mixer). For example a Rode NT-1 ($200) and an ART Tube MP ($100). If you don't like the cast of my suggetions try clicking on the search facility at the top of this page and doing some legwork on your own.

Oh, by the way - what soundcard do you have? You'll need a special audio soundcard if you want to use a real mic with 1/4" or XLR plugs, and that'll cost a bit as well.
