Can CEP be used to trigger MIDI devices?

Hi there, bear with me. I'm wondering if Cool Edit can output an audio signal as a MIDI note (keep in mind I don't know much about MIDI at all). What I'd like to do is record a kick drum track with a mic, and then output via MIDI to trigger a kick drum sound from a drum machine, and run the analog output out of the drum machine and back into my interface. Is this feasible, or am I totally off my rocker here?

When you record the acoustic kick drum w/ a mic, you're recording a wav/audio file. However, if you want to trigger another kick drum from the drum machine, then you will need a midi note. I don't know how (or if) you can convert an audio file to midi, but I would just try triggering the drum machine directly from your keyboard using midi. Also you could try triggering the drum machine w/ your drum kit using a trigger and drum module. Both do the same thing, just different methods.

if your just looking for some good Synth drum sounds. get some Drum triggers and a drum module and record that..

to convert audio to MIDI you will need a interface for it.

alesis DM-4 or 5 module..

Alesis DM-4

Hey thanks a lot guys. I didn't think I would be able to do it, but I thought I'd ask anyways. I wanted to use it for some friends' metal project that I'll be recording this weekend. I do plan to eventually get one of the Alesis units, but I was hoping to come up with an alternative for this time. Thanks for the replies.
