Can Cakewalk utilize two monitors?

Curious whether Cakewalk Home Studio could use two Viewsonic VG150 LCD monitors. Would it be worthwhile? Will I need two video cards? Anything I should be aware of as I set up the two monitors to one computer?

It's actually not Cakewalk that uses two monitors, it's Windows. What OS are you using. This is pretty easy with WinXp.

I don't know if you can do it with two video cards - probably, but I don't know for sure. However, the easiest way is with a dual monitor video card.

Do a search, this topic was addressed in previous threads.
 
I'm using Windows 2000. Reason I mentioned Cakewalk is becuase I trying to learn whether Cakewalk can display different data on the two monitors. I'll look for the previous threads as well, and thanks.
 
Yes, as dachay said. It's Windows' job to utilize dual monitor. I've tried it with WinXP and Win98SE. Both are okay. To run dual monitors, you can either use dual head video card (I heard moskus has this setup, right?), or use 2 video cards like my setup. It's one AGP and one PCI. My case, I must set the PCI as primary in the bios to work. Different mobo/bios works differently. Only few mobo allowed you to use onboard video along with AGP. Most of them will shut down onboard video automaticaly when you insert AGP card. Here's why you must have one PCI beside AGP if your AGP is not dual head. Running dual monitors gives you alot advantage, since you can -for example- set track view on one monitor, and piano roll view on the other, etc... :)

It does not work in the same way Sonar works with 2 monitors, but it still can be done.

Sonar lets any window be moved outside the limits of the parent program window - HS2002/2004 don't. Only DXi effect and sofsynth windows can exist outside the limits of the program window. In order to use 2 monitors with HS, you need to maximize the program window and have it span across both monitors.

That is how I use HS2004.
 
"spreading" Cakewalk

I've got the dual monitor graphics card and the two video monitors and I know it can be spread across two monitors but can I show piano roll on one and the synthesizer on the other?
 
Yes, if you don't maximize the PianoRoll (inside HomeStudio/whatever). :)

That's right, and I can't live without it. Once you've tried it, you'll never go back! I have (normally) the left screen dedicated to the Track View, and the right to anything else.


The real beauty is: Screen Layouts! I have these layouts:
- Track View and Console View: TV on left monitor and CV on the right.
- Track View and Piano Roll: TV on left monitor and Piano Roll on the right.
- Track View only: The right screen is cleared, and I can open synths and effects on it.

Good! Now, you go to Key Bindings (under Setup) and Bind a shortcut-key to these settings! Aha! Instant layouts! :D
