Hi guys! A friend of mine gave me some old cable mics... Is there any chance to damage a mic if the mic has some lose contacts of wires touching each other...
I´ll take a look into the soldering job, but I would like to know just in case...

dynamic mics will be fine, it's anything with phantom power that could be damaged with bad cables.

The mic? No, I would be more concerned with what pre you are plugging that cable into. Phantom power shorted on two leads could fry the pre, but I think the mic itself would be fust fine.

Neither mic nor pre should be damaged, if properly designed. If improperly designed, they would be destroyed in short order anyway, even with correctly wired cables.

It is possible to destroy a ribbon mic very quickly with phantom power and improperly wired cables.
