Mbox 2 & Windows 7 64 bit.. AAAARrrrrggghghh!!!

Has anyone had any success in using these 2 together? I have found loads on line but there seems to be no real answer. I have an mbox 2 with a pro tools 8 LE disk. I have tried installing the disk then installing the 8.05 update, but keep getting blue screens. I have found a stand alone driver and although the system recognises the mbox 2, playback is full of static and crackles. surely there must be a solution for this?? someone please help - i'm tearing my hair out!!!

Here's some questions for you to help narrow this down:

Are you using an external hard drive? If so, is the ext hard drive USB, Firewire, or E-Sata? Do you have multiple internal hard drives? What processor do you have? Have you turned off power saving features in Windows? Have you attempted to adjust your buffer size? Have you attempted to use it with any other DAW's? I beleive the MBOX2 connects via USB - have you tried moving the cable around at either end to see if that makes the static better/worse, or tried replacing the cable (if possible)? You're not using a hub, and using the USB ports in the back of your computer? Have you communicated with Digi? It seems as though this has been due to a faulty potentiometer on multiple MB2's.

It's probably not a USB connection issue. If the connection was faulty, you wouldn't be able to install as the process requires communication with the hardware.

There are three common windows issues which would be good to know if you've addressed;

1) have you got internet explorer 8 installed? - this is a tricky one to address because it's wired into windows, but ideally it would be best to roll back to an earlier version (which is what I did) but a newer version may be more stable too, but I couldn't vouch for it myself.

2) do you have an nvidia graphics card? If not, that might be your issue as they only supprt nvidia.

3) have you checked the other pc system requirements for pro tools? They can be a bit fussy about motherboards and processors etc.
After a quick search I couldn't find the original PT8 requirements on the Avid website anymore, but here are the PT9 requirements which look mostly familiar, so hopefully should be a useful starting point.

If you've checked those, and they do or don't throw up a problem, let us know and we can take it from there.

Thanks very much guys - i'll have a look into this.

Cheers

Disable your onboard audio. You may have to do this from the BIOS.

+100 on disable the internal audio, you no longer need it.
