grumpy bastard
I've been trying to sync up a Yamaha AW 16 hard disc recorder with Adobe Audition on my PC. The Yamaha AW supports Sonar, Cubase, logic and protools but surely if it sends a M.I.D.I. time code and recieves one I should be able to sync Audition up with it. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!

Before anybody gets on ol' tangerine's backside for posting this question in two forums, I suggested that he try posting the question here because he was striking out in the other forum and because I figured if anybody would know the answr it would be tiy fantastic CEP/Audition folks. So blame me if you have to.

Adobe Audition only uses SMPTE time code which is nested within the MIDI code. If your Yamaha does not speak the same language it will not work.

If it does, then connect the two machines together with your midi cable and go to the configuration settings of each device and set sync settings to either slave or master accordingly. Then place them into sync mode and give it a try. The master transport will operate the slave machine.

Good Luck,

I've tried all that, I have a feeling I'm going to have to get a MOTU time piece to convert one time code to another. The Yamaha sends mmc and mtc but only recieves mtc and I think that's where the problem lies, however tomorrow is another day and no doubt I'll spend another few frustrating hours trying to get it to work.

While the TimePiece is a very good unit, you might be able to find a less expensive solution.

you read that in a fortune cookie somewhere didnt you....:)

tangerine.
over the years ive been thru your syncing frustration many many times.
if were me i would talk to yamaha support directly and see if they have any solutions for you.
i would suspect setting up the pc(audition) as master and the AW as slave would be the best way to approach this. hope you get it working.

I managed to sus it out about 20 mins ago, I'm going to post something later ('cause I'm on my dinner hour now) with all the settings just in case someone might find it handy.
