hi-
can a human voice distort an SM 57?

Seems like it shouldn't since its often used on a raging guitar amp.

But I think I'm doing it. Singing 3-4 inches away with a pop filter. I think I've ruled out preamp in& output issues. Still experimenting...

thanks

It's possible. I swear this gospel chick distorted my AT 4033 at the mic, not the pre.

Thanks

I just finished a bunch of testing on this and my problem was solved . I changed the RNC to a -5 db threshold instead of -10db. I think I was hearing more compression than I wanted to.

for fun I pulled out my decibel meter and tested my singing, and it was at 109-111 db. That shouldn't be a problem for the -57 right? Isn't its limit like 125 db or something?

thanks

I doubt you could actually distort the mic with your voice but it's easy to make them pop. Use a pop filter on vocals.
