can a "+ 12 dBu,20 kilohm" input handle a guitar?

ok, i'm asking it in a weird way but don't know better :rolleyes:

can a "+ 12 dBu , 10 kilohm balanced 1/4" jack"
handle a guitar or bassguitar?

i'm talking about the symetrix 201 EQ,
might be nice if i could just plug a guitar in the pre-amp of it,
and record trough that into my motu828.

..thought it was just a unit to plug in an insert of a mixer,
but seems like it can act as a "DI" too ?

It can, but you probably won't get as many of the high frequencies
through as with a higher impedance input, as it will load the pickups
somewhat, as far as I know. The impedance standard for common magnetic pickup inputs seem to be in the range of 1 MegaOhm, with piezo pickups
going as high as 10 and beyond, MegaOhms. But It might not matter too
much, depending on pickups, instrument and the sound you're after - try it and see what you think.

You are correct. It will work, as in it will pass audio, but most guitars into a line input don't sound their best, they usually sound soft. This may vary if you have active pickups.
