camping out in the front yard
grabbing our flashlights and batteries
telling ghost stories all night long

V
we curled up in our sleeping bags
and hid the world away
our dreams became reality

C
and while the rooster calls
we will lie in wait
under the rising sun
the beginning of the day

V
shadows dance with the blowing trees
the wind whistles a tune of melancholy
the break of day has finally come
and the birds keep perfect harmony

I like this part and the subject is a great idea for a song. I would stick with the nighttime and throw some fireflies or something in the chorus. Just my thoughts.....Good luck with this one and post something for us to listen to when you can.

Cool, it has a nice light, happy, fun feeling to it.

- only thing I noticed is that verse 3 has one line more than the other two verses.....

:) :D :) :D

I like it. I guess I'd like to see some more description of other sights and sounds, as well, as you work on it further. I guess my only other thought is to make it more familiar and reminiscent to listeners is to change it to "back yard", which is where I'd guess 95% of kids do thier camping. (you may be the exception?)

I was going to mention the "back yard" thing too. But then I thought maybe they lived on an acreage or someplace where the front yard was more natrual and visible place to set up a tent. I know of a couple friends' homes like that.
Maybe bradoj can give us some insight as to his choice of camping out.....

When I was about 6 years old my mother made me mad one day; so I packed a few things into my name-labeled duffel bag, grabbed my sleeping bag, and headed out the front door. At about 50 feet out I was satisfied and sprawled my sleeping bag out in the middle of our grassy front yard.

I think this is where the idea of camping out in the front yard comes from, although that's not necessarily what the song is referring to.

I appreciate all of your comments, I will have to work more on this soon.
