Not really recording related but my laptop seems to be switching itself off at random and sometimes will not turn on - i have been told thismigt be a 'boot' problem? some sort of virus.

Help please!!!

I use to have it happen to me all the time. Reason being my laptop would overheat because I would tend to mixdown songs and try to browse the internet and instant message and whatnot all at once. I always thought it was odd that my fan was so much louder than everyone else I knew with a laptop.... I'm not that careless any more when it comes to overheating my laptop. I don't know if desktop users have this problem or not. When the computer overheats and doesn't turn on right away, you have to press the reset button on the bottom. It's not some kind of master reset that is going to wipe your harddrive and whatnot. So in conclusion, if it isn't a heat problem, I can't help you :p

I wouldnt think it was a virus because of the laptop not powering up....if it were a virus, the computer would have to power up for the virus to be active and be able to cause any problems...since the machine is off...a virus cant be doing anthing to cause it not to power up.

It's overheating.
See it the you need to clean the fuzz out from the fan.

Another vote for overheating.

Along with checking the fan to see if it's clogged or even working, take a look at the surface it's sitting on and the amount of time it's there.

I'm half on the overheating, but also the power supply/battery might be going out on it also.
