... get yourself a copy of "the songwriter's market" from your local library, do a little research, contact some appropriate publishers, and start sending stuff out. it's a great book, with lot's of info on that aspect of the industry.

HIT THE ROAD

You obviously didn't make the call. Had you done so, you would feel differently.

Hi. Although I am a"newbie" I have aquired some recording credentials through the years. You can find them at: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?...=R222388#APPEAR
I am in complete agreement with Jennae. If there were such a package as Hooper is offering, I would have found it a long time ago. Although I am an industry record producer, I assist indies as well as anyone who has any questions regarding the industry. I highly recommend Jennae's Indie Intrusion site and support it.

It is all "too often" that some genious comes along offering to help you for $. Don't do it! Either use Jennae's site or Email me at: beach0339053@comcast.net for any questions you may have. No, there is no charge for this...unless you start buying D. Hoopers package (just kidding).

Great site...nice to be here...just a shame I had to look at Hoopers post first...pretty disgusting.

1. The post you're responding to is about a free call.

2. The money has to come from somewhere.

When you help an artist, who pays for it? Your resume at All Music is very impressive, but playing and producing isn't the same as selling.

What have you done for Jennae?

Free information my friend...free information.

So you take up their time. Is that really free then?

Givin time, not "taken". By the way, I have a friend your way...
"Scott Turner". There's a guy who gladly gives information away as well. Because of his assist, I got a beginning in the business. Actually, got him from "Songwriters Market"...a long time ago. He assisted, cost me nothing but my time, but more importantly, his time & advice. Through the years, I've made it a point to assist, when I can. I can and shall continue to do so for those who ask.
I can't see the reason to charge anyone money. I have been fortunate enough to have found a "window of opportunity" along the way. I wish the same for others. All they need is a little knowlege and inspiration.

So, easy now Hooper. Are you going off because you have little to offer? What have you accomplished in this industry which gives you the right to charge money for? Go head Jack, name just one million selling record you have contributed to. How about one 500,000 (gold) record. What credentials of value do you hold in order to "sell" information?

When someone from the industry steps up to the plate to admonish you, you can't take it? Get real, you're wrong.
It is certainly not a music degree which gave you any reliable information. So who have you paid to gain such a wealth of knowlege? Sorry to jump on your case, but you can't be taken seriously. Maybe that's what's pissin' you off. Look at the reponses you're getting from this site alone. Doesn't that tell you anything?

www.2nmc.com has a link to my bio.

And if you'll read the info at www.indiebiz.com, you'll see that the advice I give has little to do with any degree I have.

Where are you based out of Rick? Did some stuff with the guys from Kool and the Gang and we probably know some of the same people. Never heard of Scott Turner though. Who does he work for?

As for the Gold and Platinums, it's all on the site.

Buried Treasure Music David...an old timer from Nashville and a hell of a good guy. He helped me out a lot a long time back...very supportive individual. I think he only deals with country nowadays, but he used to be involved in several genre. I've been down there several times. Great place...Nice people.

As far as "newbies" go, I'm the "Newbiest" :-)
... having made that rediculous comment - let me say hopefully without boasting, that after many albums and a couple films and doing music for Sony PlayStation games - I believe I am at the very least qualified to say that if anyone ever asks you to pay money for advice about "how to make it" inthe music business (other than your lawyer) - run. It's totally unethical.

(btw, I know a prominent person in the Kool & The Gang camp, and I know him very well - I have no idea what you guys are refering to because I didn't utilize any of the links you've posted, but how are you affiliated with KATG?

Anyway -
Pulling it off in the world of music is very, very difficult, and is principally about who you know, and hardly anything else - (perhaps a bit of luck and a whole lot of trying) and if you can deliver the goods - do it all yourself - especially these days. What I know to be true is that most U.S. Majors these days have their sights on DIY acts, eg, sell 1,000 pieces and you'll get noticed pretty fast. About the only thing an artist should pay for is a lawyer and publicist, if you can afford it, and if you have a bit of a budget to allocate to promotion, hire an independent radio promoter for 3 weeks.. Then do a lot of tenacious playing & praying.

There is no "prominent person" in the Kool & the Gang Camp (unless you're referring to "IBMC"...just kidding). For industry credits go to: "allmusic.com" and search: "Rick Iantosca".
This is strictly an industry credit site. You will then know what I'm talking about. Delite Records resurrected K & G with the productions of Emuir Deodato for several albums. In believing "they could do it themselves", Deodato was dismissed. Becoming "lost" in record production (left with only the engineer: Jim Bonnefond & K & G member: Ronald Bell), I was brought in to do: "whatever it takes" to complete the Lp: "In the Heart". With the the good fortune of the hit single: "Joanna" (and several others), I was again brought in to work on the following Lp: "Emergency". On both albums I had no choice but to erase tracks, re-program and re-arrange the material (and subsequently played most of the instuments), on these tracks. I do hold the work tapes I was given - to this day. My favorite was a song called: "Dear Mom" (which we eventually modified to: "Joanna"... hence... all the credits on these albums and a subsequent staffwriting position at Delite Records.

In again believing: "they could do it themselves", they (K & G), were dismissed. Consequently their venue has changed from appearances at Radio City... to amusement parks and ball games.

Although the lead singer: "J.T. Taylor" has again quit the band, I remain in contact with both "J.T." as well as the head of the group: "Ronald Bell" ("Khalis"). If you can, give either Khalis or J.T. a call and ask them about it. I'm certain they will explain "things".

The story is sad but true. This is simply what happens in the industry sometimes.

Ther is more...much more. However, with a possible impending judicial hearing (regarding these and "other" matters), it would be a bit unethical to comment too much further at this time.

I saw them about a year ago (maybe less) with the Commodores, Brick, and Ohio Players. New singer that sounds just like JT, but it's still not the same.

Can't remember who was original and who wasn't. They have had various incarations over the years, so even the people we think of as KATG, aren't original, right? JT wasn't original.

Last time I talked to anybody there, they were doing well in Africa and non-US markets. But you're right in that they don't play huge venues here anymore.

By the way, on that tour, I think Brick was the only band with more than a couple of its original members. They had a drummer named "Velvet" that I wasn't sure about, but if he was in the band originally, I think they had everybody.

He's a badass, by the way. Would love to hear more of his work.

Eddie Irons was Brick's original drummer.
Never heard nobody call him "Velvet."
Maybe so, but I don't think so.
