Cakewalk Sonar Prod. HELP!

I need tips for making quality recordings. Can't afford the hardware for protools right now so im stuck with this. Lend me some advice and tips on using this program to its full potential.

Gee, "stuck" with a $600 piece of software. My heart bleeds for you.

My tip would be to go pay for a legitimate copy of the software and you'll actually get a user's manual.

But if you actually did buy the Sonar Producer from Cakewalk
check out these books from Scott R. Garrigus
powerbooks

I personally have Sonar 2 power even though I have since then upraged to 3 producer. I still use the book quite often.

Without knowing more about your setup I can't really help you......
just hang around these boards and read everything (thats what I did)
you will be surprised as to how much you can learn.

As evhwanabe suggested (thanks, evhwanabe!), you might want to check out one of my Sonar Power books. There is a book available for each individual version of Sonar. The books will walk you through all of the features with step-by-step examples and exercises.

So what hardware are you stuck with? That is more important than if it's ProTools or Sonar, plus you technique and talent of course.
 
Sonar (or any DAW program) won't do you any good if you don't have a decent hardware front-end to work with. So my advice is to get a decent hardware front-end and learn how to use it. Oh, and make sure your instruments are tuned, make sure your room acoustics don't suck, and make sure you can play your instruments. Voila! Perfect recipe for making quality recordings with Sonar! Oops, I forgot about knowing how to mix as well, that's sort of important :)
