Hi all,
I am currently using 98SE but was wondering if things might go any smoother on ME,,, I have an Ark Direct Pro 24/96 card. Sonar locks up quite often on me... I'm sure it could be for other reasons than the opp system. But I was just curious how others might be working on ME.... thanks for the help all.

the aardvark currently has only MME drivers for SONAR. i don't think a move to ME is necessary. the current hype is that SONAR is optimized for win2k with WDM drivers....a lot of people are running SONAR on win2k......but, soon there will be XP, yadda, yadda....;)

at any rate, you should be able to get SONAR to work with 98SE....what's your machine? do you have the latest drivers for the aardvark? have you made sure that only the aardvark drivers are enabled for SONAR? (running the wave profiler does this pretty much automatically) you might also want to check the "use only MME" box...under OPTIONS-AUDIO-ADVANCED.........in some case you might want to clean out the aud.ini file......to do this delete everything after this:

[Aud]
DataDir=C:\Cakewalk Projects\Audio Data
PictureDir=C:\Cakewalk Projects\Picture Cache

in the aud.ini file in PROGRAM FILES>CAKEWALK>SONAR folder.

what is your cpu meter reading when you get a lock up? are you running any programs in the background?

good luck

Sonar Headaches...!!!

Sup J,
Just wanted to add my 2.5 cents. I've used SONAR in windows ME, 98, and 2K, and to be completely honest I've seen little to no improvement or difference in the number of problems with this application with either of these OS's. The program offers some great features but it is really buggy at this point as far as I can tell.
And to answer any questions about the speed of my PC, I am now running a AMD 1.4g, with 1 G of RAM and a delta 66 card. I still experience dropouts, occasional pops, clicks (this may be an M-Audio driver issue), and a sense of overall frustration at times with this program. Maybe version 2.0 will run smoother on win XP or something but for now we are stuck with this qwerky program.
Ofcourse this is just my 2.5 cts on the matter :o
