Hi Everyone!!
I recently bought a Soundblaster Platinum Live 5.1 and have just got a copy of Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.
When I was installing Cakewalk,I couldn't do a full Installation without an error message appearing.
I was told to do a custom installation and uncheck
"Sample files and Templates".
Now Cakewalk loads no problem but I was wondering if
unchecking "Sample files and Templates" will affect the
overall performance of the program.
Yours Stupidly,
Mitch.

Hmmmmm, wonder why it should say that... those are pretty benign files types. Sample files (I think) are just the sample midi and midi/audio files that Cakewalk gives you to show what the program can do. The only real utility I think they have is checking out the program to make sure it works well (for example, you load their pre-recorded audio file, which you "know" works, and see if you can get it to play) so there is no meaningful loss to you if you can't load them. Templates are pre-setup (and you can and may well want to make your own) "songs" with no data, so when you open them your common settings are already made for you... when you hit "new song" it opens into the template folder and you select one....when it opens you have piano on track 1 going to this output and drum loops on track 2 going to that out put etc. Again you can make your own.

If you have enough hard disk space, I can't imagine why you would get that error message. It shouldn't effect the functioning of the program at all. You may be able to do a custom install later with just those files if you want them. I also wonder if it is a bad CD that you are reading, you may want to check that.

Enjoy!!!!

Hi M,

I think I know why it says that.
If you got your copy of Cake "somewhere" off the net, the "supplier" usually leaves out those files, to decrease filesize and thus download time. Installing Cake requires to uncheck those sample files and templates, simply cause Cake's installer wouldn't be able to locate them.
I know cause I installed a bootleg version too, just to check it out for awhile. That's fine, but I do believe anyone who uses such a version and decides to keep it, they should go out and buy it...

Many greetings, Tab

the thread before me has it absolutely right.

you have a bootleg copy of cakewalk.

It should work ok with your soundblaster live though I recommend getting the real thing.
