Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and my N264

Ok here is the deal, I have my midi cables hooked up to my synthand I can get the synth to play back sequences that other people bring to my house and I can make sequences with the mouse in panio roll view and hear the notes, but when I try to record from Cakewalk and play notes on the synth nothing records. I have my synth set to track 1 andCakewalk set to channel 1, and the instruments set to Roland GS sound set or I set it to the default mpu-401. If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong or what I could try to rectify the situation that would be greatly appreciated.

Let me make sure I understand you...You have songs that you have sequenced in Cakewalk and now you want to record them into the N264,s sequencer?
 
Actually what I'm trying to do is record a midi sequence in Cakewalk using my synth but when I arm the track and press record and then start playing notes on my synth nothing is recorded in Cakewalk
 
Check that in Midi Devices you have the correct midi input device selected. Make sure you are using that as the source in your track. Are you "arming' the tracjk before you press record?

That should be all there is to it.

Make sure the keyboard is in the Local Off Position..this is on Page 3B in the global mode...in cakewalk..make sure you are in the Echo mode..go to Options..Project...Midi Input make sure all channels are checked and Echo Mode is in Auto..go to the clock tab while you are there and select ...Internal...holla back if this dont get you there..and state everything you have done starting at step one..and be specific...

When you arm the track and play do you see the lights on the midi interface flickering? Also which midi interface are you using? If you have the Midiman midisport ...make sure you have the button pressed in ..to get you in the USB mode
 
Ok I checked everything you had mentioned and when I turned the local off on the keyboard I could no longer hear the sounds from the keybaord. I tried to record anyway but it didn't record the midi info and the midi indicator lights didn't light up either.

here is the steps I have taken.

1. I hooked up a simple midi interface (not a midisport) to the game controller port of the computer connecting it to the synths midi in and out.

2.I power up both the computer and synth and make sure that the synth's local is turned off and the sequencer on the synth is set to track 1. Then I make sure that Cakewalk has an armed track (I use the midi omni setting and channel 1) and I press record and start to play the synth and nothing happens.

Side note: I can hear sounds from the synth when I go into the panio roll view and use the mouse to make notes
 
Try switching to Program mode ...or Combination mode on the keyboard...leave it in local off..make sure you are Echo mode ..Auto....You shouldnt have to set anything in the sequencer mode on the keyboard...you simply find the sound you want to record either at Program or Combination mode...arm the midi track..and go :)
 
elbenj, I tried what you just suggested and unfortunately it didn't work either. although it did record a couple of notes long after I pressed about 50 of them, there was a huge lag and only a couple of them actually made sounded and were recorded. I should be able to hear all the notes even if I'm not recordin anything at the time though. Oh yeah, cho mode was in auto.

It might possibly be a bad midi connection and/or cable..what midi interface are you using...
 
I'm not sure who makes it. It was a 30 dollar MIDI to PC cable that I bought from the music store. One time in the past I got it to work on accedent and haven't been able ot get it to work since.
