I have Cakewalk Sonar 4. I have the default effects that come with it. I'm looking for a microphone simulator (preferable one that lets you select your mic and model it towards a different mic. ie. SM-58 -> U87). I would also like a decent amp sim. Are there any good free ones out there? I would prefer free ones, but would also consider purchasing. There's so many out there, I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have a list of most recommended or the 'must haves?'

Thanks!

antares has a plug in that has gotten some good reviews. for the price you may as well just buy a nice mike though

Minofifa is right about the mic modeler.
When you are starting out recording it's very tempting to buy these "Swiss Army Knife" type software, but you will find that nothing beats the real thing.
A decent EQ will probably do as much for you as the mic modeler.

I'm not crazy about amp simulaters but they have their purposes. Here's one that's not flashy but serves it's purpose...and it's FREE!
